Transportation in the Finger Lakes
With the Finger Lakes region just a one-day drive (about 300 miles) from about 50 percent of the population of the United States, many visitors arrive by car. Some, however, come by rail via Amtrak, whose route across New York State roughly follows the east-west route of the New York Thruway from Albany to Buffalo. Finger Lakes area stations are in Syracuse and Rochester. Airports in Syracuse, Rochester, Ithaca, Elmira/Corning, and Binghamton link the region to the rest of the world. Finally, the Greyhound/Trailways bus system offers point-to-point service throughout all the major cities (800-231-2222).
