Shopping in the Finger Lakes

The Finger Lakes has its share of malls and a couple large outlet complexes, but it is in the revitalized downtown city areas and in villages like Skaneateles and Geneva where you’ll find wonderful pockets of shopping treasures in boutiques, galleries and speciality shops.

There are also many outdoor flea markets and farm markets in the warmer months as well as the well-stocked gift shops in the wineries.

Some that come immediately to mind that are those located in downtown Corning, Ithaca, Skaneateles, and Armory Square in Syracuse. Some shops are so unusual that they’re worth a side trip. These include Arbor Hill, Bristol Springs (Canandaigua Lake), where everything is grape-related; Artizanns featuring a variety of art produced by local artists including paintings, sculpture, fiber arts, stained glass (Naples/Canandaigua Lake); Weaver-View Farms, selling Amish and Mennonite crafts, foods, and gifts (Penn Yan/Keuka Lake); MacKenzie-Childs (Aurora/Cayuga Lake), a fantasy land of whimsically painted pottery, glass, and furniture; Skyland Farm (Seneca Lake), wonderful farm, garden, crafts shop, luncheon deli, and barn; and Vermont Green Mountain Specialty Company selling homemade candy and other goodies that are impossible to resist (Skaneateles Lake).
